Great 2017 Christmas Community Events for Seniors in Kamloops
What is the best way to spend December? Going outside and joining the friendly people of Kamloops as they get ready for the holiday season. Christmastime always brings out the best in people, and 2017 in Kamloops is no exception.
A short drive up Westsyde Road from The Hamlets at Westsyde is the Woodward Christmas Tree farm. Is there any smell that reminds you of Christmas more than evergreen trees on a brisk, winter day? Every weekend before Christmas, they’re offering bonfires, concession stands, and hay wagon rides. Bring your grandchildren and watch their faces light up.
From December 15 – 17, Sun Peaks will be kicking off the holidays with lights, music, and much, much more. Forget about the skiing – why not check out the ice carvings and ginger bread houses? If you remember the taste of fresh maple syrup made in the snow, then you’ll want to come and try it all over again.
For the train buffs, there’s an amazing winter journey on the Spirit of Christmas. Kamloops Heritage Railway is offering a Christmas train ride through Kamloops, with hot chocolate, cookies, and carols to keep everyone warm and smiling. You can sit back, sing to your heart’s content, and enjoy the beautiful evening on the 8-kilometre ride. If this doesn’t put you in the spirit of Christmas, I don’t know what will.
Finally, on Christmas Eve, there’s the Choral Eucharist and carol singing at St. Paul’s Cathedral. When the community of Kamloops comes together to celebrate Christmas and their voices fill the air, it’s a magical part of the holidays. There’s no better way to get ready for Christmas.
At The Hamlets at Westsyde, we know how important it is for seniors in Kamloops to get outside and be a part of the community. Living in seniors housing doesn’t mean you hide away, like you’re in some private seniors village. It means getting outside and having fun.
