Tips for Kamloops Seniors That Like to Walk

March 22nd, 2020

As a member of the retirement community in Kamloops, spring is the perfect time of year to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Walking is a great way to increase physical activity, as it provides a cardiovascular boost that is easy on the body and joints.

One obstacle many seniors refer to, is a lack of knowledge on what good local routes are, as well as not having others to walk with. So here are some suggestions which can alleviate those concerns, and get you moving soon.

Riverside Park

Located on the Thompson River, Riverside park is a great place to go for a walk or stroll along some easy pathways, or even on the beach. Throughout the spring and summer there are also a number of other activities offered, so there is sure to be something to see or do once you are finished your walk.

City of Kamloops Programs

This suggestion not only includes walking options, but a number of other organized events and programs for seniors. The City of Kamloops offers spring and summer programs specifically designed for seniors. From everything from a seniors picnic to aquatics, there is sure to be something that peaks your interest.

Hearts in Motion Walking Club

This suggestion may not take place outside, but it is still an excellent choice. The Hearts in Motion Walking Club takes place at the Aberdeen Mall every Tuesday and Thursday. Participants meet at the food court at 8:30am and it is open to everyone. The yearly participation fee is $10, with money raised being donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. This is a great way to meet some new people, and be active while doing it.

Living in a seniors village in Kamloops does not mean you can not get out and experience all that this beautiful city and region has to offer. These are just a few of the almost endless number of opportunities out there. Of course, for those feeling less adventurous, The Hamlets at Kamloops does offer its own range of programs and activities for its residents.
