LOCAL EMPLOYEE HONOURED WITH CARE PROVIDER OF THE YEAR AWARD!

February 23rd, 2017

January 25, 2017

We’re so delighted that one of our local employee’s has been honoured with the BCCPA Care Provider Of The Year Award!

The BC Care Providers Association recently honored Tasia McLean with the Care Provider of the Year (residential) Award. She will receive the honor on February 20, 2017 at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia. The award will be presented by Health Minister Terry Lake MLA. The ceremony will run from 6pm to 9pm and be held in the beautiful Palm Court. As part of her award, Ms. McLean is invited to BC Care Providers Association’s annual Delegate Day with members of the Legislative Assembly.

Ms. McLean has demonstrated the excellence in care that The Hamlets at Westsyde is known for. During this past holiday season, her outreach to the community to provide cards to residents improved their spirits and created connections between our residents and the community. Her focus on identifying improvements to workflow in order to provide better patient care affirms her commitment to our mission of providing quality outcomes. And she exemplifies the loving care we provide to our residents.

Here’s what Bob Attfield, The Hamlets at Westsyde’s  Director of Operations had to say  “Last year (2015) just before Christmas, Tasia posted a request on the Logan Lake facebook page asking for donations of cards to brighten the Holiday Season for residents that do not have any family. She arranged for the cards to be dropped off at a local store and she would take care of distributing them. The response was overwhelming … over 700 cards and letters were received from not only the residents of Logan Lake but also Kamloops, Savona, Ashcroft and as far away as Blue River! Elementary and high school students got into the sprit and made cards with original poems and greetings. The art class at Westsyde Secondary painted pictures to be given to residents as gifts. In addition over 100 gifts and Christmas stockings were donated by various families and community organizations. All of this because of Tasia’s effort to reach out to the community to help make our residents lives brighter over the holidays.

Tasia, on her own time, sorted the cards and gifts based on resident preference, addressed them and with the help of fellow co-workers delivered them to the residents … all 176!

Tasia has also been very involved in raising awareness in our community about Alzheimer’s by promoting our “Forget Me Not” garden. She has been instrumental in supporting efforts to raise money for extra park benches and a garden that will be enjoyed by our residents with dementia.

She was also instrumental in identifying improvements to the work flow on the floors all with a focus on the continual improvement of the quality of care. An example is the simplifying of the daily task sheets that make it easier for care aides to track their work activity and hence free up time from administration duties to provide additional care. This is characteristic of her leadership and dedication to the residents who call The Hamlets their home. Tasia always sports an infectious smile that raises the spirit of everyone she comes in contact with and provides nothing but exemplary care to our residents.  For special occasions such as Halloween and theme events she always takes the time to plan and wear a costume, again bringing smiles to those she comes in contact with. She is truly an extraordinary care aide that makes such a difference everyday in the lives of those she cares while continuing to build the culture of caring here at the Hamlets.”

The Hamlets at Westsyde is a supportive residential care and independent assisted living community managed by H&H Total Care Services, located in the Westsyde neighborhood of Kamloops, British Columbia. The Hamlets has many amenities and activities, as well as a staff that embraces health and happiness, making it the ideal choice for those looking to find a community to support them in their daily lives, no matter their activity level, medical or care needs.

The BC Care Providers Association was established over 40 years ago and represents the majority of non-government providers of community care for seniors in the province. While membership in the BCCPA is voluntary, its members care for more than 16,000 seniors annually in residential care and assisted living.

The whole team and residents at The Hamlets at Westsyde are delighted that Tasia McLean was chosen as their residential caregiver of the year.

Way to go Tasia!
