But many don’t know that there is lots of free music available to listen to. Here are some ideas for seniors you may know in assisted living or residential care.
Cable
If there is cable available, like for television, then there is music available. The cable networks all have channels that are just for music, and there are dozens of types of music to choose from. If someone doesn’t feel like watching television, they can still listen to music, and everything from Jazz to Baroque is available.
Online
There are many websites that play streaming music for free. There are plenty of others including GooglePlay, iheartradio, and Mixclouds for other examples.
Orchestras
Because of COVID-19, and most music halls being closed, many of the world’s most famous orchestras are allowing you to listen to them practice and posting tapes of free concerts from around the world. This is for classical music lovers, and we don’t know how long it will last. But if you want to listen to great classical music, this is the ticket. And it’s free.
Radio
And then there’s always a radio. You can still listen to music around the clock on the radio just like people did 75 years ago. You will likely hear some commercials, but it’s free, and it’s easy.
Music is good for mental health. We are hard-wired to hear and respond to music, and humans have been making music since the beginning of time. Help the seniors that you know to listen to some wonderful music today. It’s easy and it’s free.
